About Us
Mission Statement Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County works in partnership with God, his people, and partner families to enrich our community by building and renovating simple, decent, affordable housing to assist families of limited means achieve home ownership.
How The Program Works Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County is a Christian-based 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization seeking to alleviate the shortage of quality affordable housing in Waukesha County. For many families in Waukesha County, having a place to call home is impossible. Skyrocketing rent and home prices make this dream too far out of reach. According to 2003 American Community Survey, the median monthly housing costs for mortgaged owners was $1,532, and renters $811. The average cost to build a home in 2005 was $284,000.
Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money, land, and materials, Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County builds or rehabilitates simple, decent houses. Families are selected based on their level of need, willingness to work, acceptance of responsibilities and ability to repay mortgage. Families must complete at lease 300 hours of sweat equity and an additional 100 hours of homeowner education classes. Qualified families purchase Habitat homes with zero-interest mortgage, enabling them to own their home. For additional information on owning a home, please click here.
