Habitat for Humanity home ownership provides secure affordable housing to low-income individuals who have been living in substandard rental units. Habitat for Humanity believes homeownership is a vital step in creating self-esteem in both families and neighborhoods, and is the most basic way to break successive generations of poverty.

To qualify for a home you must:

1. Have a need for safe and decent housing; For example, your family must be living in substandard housing, such as housing with poor heating, bad plumbing, bad wiring, leaks in the roof, overcrowding (three to a bedroom), unsanitary or unsafe conditions.
2. Have lived in our service area for over one year; our service area is made up of all of Waukesha County.
3. Be a first-time homebuyer; Each family partner must be willing to wor side by side with Habitat volunteers by investing 250 hours in the construction of your home (or someone else’s home) and by attending at least 20 hours of homeowner education classes.
4. Have a steady income .
5. Have a good credit history, no felony convictions and no more than one conviction for a misdemeanor.
